I love to go in to Target…period (and usually leave with WAY much more than I intended to get), but when I first get there my first stop is ALWAYS the dollar spot. There are so many awesome decor items for different seasons and times of the year and this particular stop definitely didn’t leave me disappointed. My eyes were immediately drawn to the mini velvet pumpkins. I understand that other Targets had other colors, but my store was down to only three colors…magenta pink, turquoise and black. Only problem is that I don’t like magenta pink.
The turquoise was pretty, but I wasn’t using that color in my fall decor so I passed . And, all of them had glittered stems.
But, they did have black. So, since they had the black (which I loved) I knew I could do something about that glitter. Definitely not glitter, I’m just not one of those kinda girls sorry to say. But, I bought the remaining three black pumpkins to take home. Happy grins all the way ?
So, what do you do when you want to get rid of the glitter? Paint it to look like a real stem. So, I gathered my brushes, paints and pictures of real stems and started painting. Using the pictures as references I layered on paint until I achieved the desired effect and I don’t think that it turned out too badly.
Here is a super up close picture. The glitter actually helped give the stems a rough texture to add to the effect.
I mean for $3, a little paint and a fraction of time I was able to give these glitter pumpkins a bit more authentic stem. That’s WAY cheaper and WAY faster than I could make them from scratch. So, whatcha think about my easy velvet mini pumpkins?
